In Service of the Local Economy for 145 Years – BOKIK Anniversary Celebration Held in the Népkerti Vigadó

The Népkerti Vigadó hosted a special event celebrating the 145th anniversary of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BOKIK). The aim of the event was to recount the nearly century-and-a-half long history of the chamber, as well as to recognize the work of all entrepreneurs who made significant efforts for the economy of the county.

The values of the past and the challenges of the present

The ceremony began with the greetings of Tamás Bihall, the president of BOKIK. In his speech he gave an overview of the major milestones of the past 145 years and also mentioned the tasks of the chamber for the future. He highlighted the role of the Széchenyi Card Programme and other capital programmes, along with the fact that the chamber actively partakes in the work of national professional committees that strengthen economic development and advocacy.

The role of the chamber in the life of the county

Afterwards county prefect Zoltán Alakszai addressed the attendants, who emphasized that the 145 years old BOKIK is not only an institution but also the voice of the business community and one of the drivers of economic development. He encouraged co-operation and mentioned how the chamber and the government offices are working together in order to support businesses, strengthen employment, encourage investments and develop vocational training.

Cooperation bolstering the county

The event also featured speeches from György Schriger, notary of the county council and Zita Horváth, the rector of the University of Miskolc, both of whom praised their long-standing and successful cooperation with the chamber.

Lastly, József Tóth-Szántai, the mayor of Miskolc reminded everyone about the significance of the chamber. In his speech he emphasized that the history of BOKIK spanned across eras where wars, crises and societal changes shaped the life of the city as well as the county. He also highlighted that the chamber’s strength was always built on the retention capabilities of the community and cooperation and this is how it became a stable point in the local economy over the past 145 years.
